Assam Petrochemicals Ltd is to set up an acetic and methanol plant in Namrup in Dibruah district of Assam with an investment of Rs. 102 billion. The company has signed debt agreements with banks and government and other state government corporation to fund the project. The new facility is likely to go operational by end 2014. Methanol is used in the manufacture of acetic acid, formaldehyde, and is used as a feedstock by dyestuff industry for the manufacture of proteins that are synthetic. Acetic acid is used in textile and garment industry for dyeing purposes.
Numaligarh Refinery to undertake diesel upgradation project in Golaghat in Assam. The company presently operates a 3.0 MMTPA refinery and two conversion unit viz. Hydrocraker of 1.1 MMTPA capacity and a Delayed Coker of 0.306 MMTPA capacity. The other supporting units are Hydrogen unit of 38,000 TPA, Coke Calcination Unit of 0.1 MMTPA, Sulphur Recovery Block and Utilities & Offsites facilities. After the diesel quality upgradation programme, it will have the following patterns.

Bongaigaon Refinery & Petrochemicals to set up Indmax project at Chirang district in Assam. The project involves setting up of INDMAX FCC Unit along with Indmax Gasoline De-Sulphurisation Unit) to eliminate production of black oils (LDO, LVFO & LSHS) and Naphtha and maximize production of value added products, namely, LPG & Motor Spirit conforming to Euro-IV specifications. The total project cost is estimated at Rs. 10000 million.
